Glbov (Ãëiáîâ) Leonid Ivanovich
(1827—1893)

Glbov (Ãëiáîâ) Leonid Ivanovich(1827—1893)

Ukrainian poet and fabulist. Leonid Glibov wrote, clear thing, not only fables – but it is they that brought him glory that has lasted not one dozen of years. You listen to them now – and you have nothing to do but to be surprised how little people have changed during the last one and a half hundred years. The same characters, relations, defects – hopes, dreams, ideals – contradictions, searches... Maybe, for this reason these pieces remain up-to-date until now – we do not really hurry to change. Moreover, the fable has always been quite a specific genre – as well, in the end, as an anecdote. Specific in the sense that it easily travels in the oral form – the need for written fixation here is obviously not as great as in the case of novels. And, although Glibov’s fables have been printed and published, – we cannot doubt that they reached a lot of people exactly through verbal narration. In the end, there are three important constituents: the verse form, attention to human psychology, as well as – witty humor. However, speaking about humor, the element of bitterness in it is often such that it quite deserves being called sarcasm. Though, on the other hand, all the same there is more love for people here...
