Present in Palestine in around 1050, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature. Its 12,500 members include Professed Friars and others who have made vows of obedience. The other Knights and Dames are lay members, devoted to the exercise of Christian virtue and charity. What distinguishes the Knights of Malta is their commitment to reaching their spiritual perfection within the Church and to expending their energies serving the poor and the sick. The Order of Malta remains true to its inspiring principles, summarised in the motto "Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum", defence of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering, which become reality through the voluntary work carried out by Dames and Knights in humanitarian assistance and medical and social activities. Today the Order carries out these activities in over 120 countries. The Sovereign Order of Malta is a sovereign subject of international law, with its own constitution, passports, stamps, and public institutions. The Order has diplomatic relations with 100 countries - many of which non-Catholic - and missions to major European countries, as well as to European and international organisations. The Order of Malta is neutral, impartial and non-political, which is why it can successfully act as a mediator between States. 1966, Medal of Jean de La Valette 1969, Jean de La Valette 1970, Coin of Jean de La Valette 1971, The Battle of Lepanto 1974, Pietro del Monte 1974, Jean-Paul de Lascaris-Castellar 1978, Hugues de Verdalle 1978, Coin of Jean-Paul de Lascaris-Castellar 1978, Coin of Martin Garzez 1979, Alof de Wignacourt 1980, The Siege of Rhodes 1980, The Siege of Rhodes 1980, The Siege of Rhodes 1980, The Siege of Rhodes 1980, The Siege of Rhodes 1981, Alof de Wignacourt 1983, The Entombment (c.1602—1604) 1984, The Conversion of St. Paul (1600—1601) 1984, The Knights of Malta (XVII cent.) 1984, The Knights of Malta (XVI cent.) 1984, The Knights of Malta (XVI cent.) 1985, St. Matthew and the Angel (1603) 1987, The Knights of Malta (XV cent.) 1987, The Knights of Malta (XV cent.) 1988, The Crucifixion of St. Peter (1600—1601) 1989, Madonna di Loreto (c.1603—1606) 1990, Arms of Jean de La Valette 1990, Arms of Pietro del Monte 1990, Madonna dei Palafrenieri (1605—1606) 1990, Arms of Jean l'Evesque de la Cassière 1991, Arms of Antoine de Paule 1991, Arms of Hugues de Verdalle 1991, Arms of Jean de Lascaris-Castellar 1991, Arms of Martin Garzez 1991, Arms of Alof de Wignacourt 1991, Death of the Virgin (c.1601—1603) 1992, Fra' Jean l'Eveque de la Cassière 1992, Fra' Martin Garzez 1992, Fra' Antoine de Paule 1992, The Beheading of St. John the Baptist (1607—1608) 1992, The Beheading of St. John the Baptist (1607—1608) 1992, The Knights of Malta (XVI cent.) 1992, The Knights of Malta (XVII cent.) 1993, Portrait of Alof de Wignacourt (c.1607—1608) 1993, The Knights of Rhodes 1994, Seven Works of Mercy (1606—1607) 1994, Jean de La Valette 1994, Jean de La Valette 1996, St. Jerome (c.1607-1608) 1998, Grang Master of Malta (XVI cent.) 2001, Alof de Wignacourt Advertising: |
