«Golden Helmet» («Casque d'Or»)

Casque d'or (Golden Helmet) is a 1952 French film directed by Jacques Becker. It is a Belle Époque tragedy, the story of an ill-fated love affair between characters played by Simone Signoret and Serge Reggiani.

A gang headed by Leca (Claude Dauphin) that hangs out around the Paris quarter of Belleville goes with their girlfriends to a dance hall in Joinville along the banks of the Marne. Marie, a prostitute called the Casque d'Or (Golden Helmet) because of her sparkling hair, is angry at her boyfriend of the moment, a handsome hood named Roland. Along comes Raymond accompanied by his childhood friend Manda, a gang member who has gone straight and is working as a carpenter. There is love at first sight between the beautiful Marie and the carpenter. A dangerously destructive passion, against the backdrop of rivalries and jealousy within the gang, unites the two lovers.
