On leaving school she hand coloured photographic portraits in water colour to resemble paintings. This came to an end with the advent of colour photography. On going to a portrait class at the local art college in Poole the tutor noted that she was working on a small scale and encouraged her to paint miniatures. She first exhibited with the Royal Miniature Society in 1976, was elected an Associate in 1981 and a full member of the RMS in 1985. Her work may be seen in several London galleries, and locally near her home in Poole, Dorset. Pauline Gyles is a Founder Member of the Society of Botanical Artists, a member of the Hilliard Society, and currently the Honorary Secretary of the Royal Miniature Society. Awards
