Kurin (Курин) Gerasim Matveevich
(1777—1850)

The Organizer and the head of the large partisan group during Domestic war. After capture by napoleonic armies of city of Bogorodsk peasants of village Pavlovo of volost Vohnenskoj have organized guerrilla group and have chosen its leader Kurin. He differed strong-willed character, has been trained to the letter, knew many crafts and enjoyed confidence also respect of peasants. Kurin has established communication with the chief of the Vladimir militia general-lieutenant B.A.Golitsyn and close contact to peasants of the next villages for joint actions. Peasants showed resistance to French foragers, grasped transports with the weapon, military property and the foodstuffs, took in a captivity the enemy soldier. To the beginning of October the group was totaled more than 5 thousand person. It had 7 collisions with the opponent, has destroyed some tens French the soldier. Kurin was awarded by the distinction of the Military award, medals " In memory of Domestic war " and "For love to Fatherland", award monetary compensation and a rank " The Honourable citizen".
