Duroc Geraud Christophe Michel
(1772—1813)
Duke of Friuli. An aristocrat (name originally du Roc), he was a student at the artillery school of Châlons at 20 years old. Left to follow his parents abroad. Returned to the school in March 1793 and graduated in June, going to the 2nd Regiment of Foot Artillery. Met Bonaparte at the siege of Toulon. ADC to General Lespinasse, and went with him to Italy in May 1796. In the following October he became Bonaparte's ADC to replace Murat. He was to stay at Napoleon's side until his death in 1813. First ADC to the First Consul (Napoleon), appointed chef de brigade (colonel) of the 3rd Regiment of Horse Artillery in March 1800, general of brigade in October 1801, Governor of the Palace of the Tuileries the following month, general of division in August 1803, Grand Officer, then Grand Marshal of the Palace in February 1805.
