Iove (Иов)
(?—1607)
Iove at first ruled Russian Church as a metropolitan (1586-1589), and then as a patriarch (1589-1607). Church affairs, at the time of acceptance of patriarchate, were in disorder. Patriarch Iove in 1594 called the Sobor on which the plan was made for Church improvement. Despite the large authority given Iova as a patriarch, he was soft spoken, mild and kind. Large part of his funds he was using for poor. Iova cared for education. During his time many church books were printed.
Patriarch Iove supported tsar Boris Godunov and his son Fyodor and therefore as soon as False -Dimitriy occupied Moscow, he deposed patriarch Iove and jailed him in a monastery. When the impostor was killed and Poles expelled from Russia (during Patriarch Germogen), Patriarch Iove, already blind elder, has been solemnly returned to Moscow to absolve people from the oath to the impostor. People repented and patriarch absolved them. Patriarch Iove returned in Staritskaya monastery and died on March, 8th, 1607.
