Achard Marcel
(1899—1974)
Marcel Achard was a prolific writer of French plays and screenplays. In theater, he is best remembered for his numerous "boulevard" comedies. Prior to becoming a writer, Achard worked as a teacher and a reporter. From 1958-59, he ran the Cannes Film Festival. He also presided over the Venice Festival in 1960. In 1959, he joined the French Academy and began writing screenplays.
