Lavant Christine
(1915—1973)

Christine Lavant (i.e., C. Habernig) was born in 1915 in Groß Edling in the Lavant Valley, Austria, and died in 1973. She led a life that was marked by poverty and illness as well as by her conflict with the Christian values of her environment. She once described her art as "only stunted life." Her poems won her the Georg Trakl Prize and the Anton Wildgans Prize in Austria.
