Sladek Josef Václav
(1845—1912)

Josef Václav Sládek spent two years in the United States from 1868-70. He wrote intimate and folksong-based lyrics, and translated English authors, including Longfellow, Bret Hart, and Robert Burns. Above all, he produced versions of 32 of Shakespeare's plays.
