Relković Matija Antun
(1732—1798)

Matija Antun Relković was a soldier and a poet. When only sixteen, he joined the army, participated in the Seven-years' war, was taken prisoner and imprisoned in Frankfurt on the Oder, and it was there that he had time on his hands to start reading and learning. There he got to know the European Enlightenment. Relković's enlightenment pays honour to both God and Emperor, and is primarily concerned with the improvement of the social and economic conditions of the life of Slavonian peasants.
