Begović Milan
(1876—1948)

Milan Begović was a poet, novelist and playwright. After completing grammar school in Split he continued his studies in Zagreb and Vienna, where he got a degree in Romance and Slavonic languages. He was a prolific writer in all areas of literary art. As a poet he wrote specific love and erotic lyric poetry, and as a novelist has some novels to his credit that used to be both celebrated and widely read at some time. He was also an excellent story-teller, he wrote two excellent plays and the libretto for the opera «Ero s onoga svijeta». By his work Begović has made himself a powerful part of the Croatian literature from the first half of the 20th century.
