Baraković Juraj (1548—1628)

Juraj Baraković was a poet, priest and Glagolitic monk. He first lived in Zadar, then in Šibenik, due to some punishment. He died during a pilgrimage to Rome and was burried in the Church of the Ilyric (Croatian) College. He is imbued with patriotic love for the Croatian language and Croatia as a historical country, particulary by his love for the city of Zadar, the mythical past of our towns Zadar and Nin, our mountains, particulary Velebit, thus continuing in the wake of his model Petar Zoranić, celebrating his homeland.
