Leip Hans (1893—1983)

Writer, born in Hamburg, N Germany. A teacher, graphic artist, and art historian, he worked on the periodical Simplicissimus before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote adventure stories describing life at sea, including Godekes Knecht (1925), Jan Klimp und die kleine Brise (1934), and Bordbuch des Satans (1959). He also wrote poetry, ballads, and radio plays, and his song ‘Lili Marleen’ is world-famous.
