Topîrceanu George
(1886—1937)
Humoristic poet loved by the children and studied in school is from Muntenia by birth but a Moldavian by conviction, living in Iasi. He is born in Bucharest, were he begins the primary school, finished in Suici-Arges on the Topolog valley. Does not finish the Letters University from Bucharest. In 1911 goes to Iasi as editorial office secretary at Viata Româneasca (conference "How I became a Iassy man". In 1912 he marries the teacher Victoria Iuga, and is born his son Gheorghe. But the married will not last. In the First World War he is taken prisoner in Bulgaria and stays for two years in a concentration camp (1916-1918). After that he will publish his war memories. In 1926 gets the National prize for poetry.
Poetry volumes: Balade vesele si triste, Parodii originale, Migdale amare are an alloy of humor and sentimentalism. He transforms "tears in jokes". The most known poems, even from the school, are: Balada unui greier mic, Rapsodii de toamna, Balada chiriasului grabit, Acceleratul, Cioara, Primavara, Balada mortii s.o. He wrote the humoristic novel Minunile Sfântului Sisoie (unfinished, published posthumously, 1938).
