Faiko (Файко) Aleksey Mikhailovich
(1893—1978)
Russian playwright. Meyerhold used Faiko's Bubus the Teacher, a satire on a cowardly liberal professor, as an experiment in pre-acting, performed with an elegant musical accompaniment of Liszt and Chopin. The music was intended not as background, but what Meyerhold called a "co-construction" or a supplemental dimension of psychological characterization. Bubus was one of Meyerhold's most significant productions from a theoretical point of view, but had little success with the general public.
