Hanrieder Norbert(1842–1913)

Norbert Hanrieder was born on July 2, 1842. His musical talent and full voice brought him to the boys' choir at the Trappist Monastery at Wilhering at the age of ten. After university he entered the seminary in Linz, was ordained a priest in 1866, and sent to Losenstein as a chaplain. Closely bound to the art of poetry, Hanrieder initially wrote in standard language, and later exclusively in dialect. His first compilation of text «Pictures from the Traditional Life of the Muehlviertel» appeared in 1895. His major work «The Upper Austrian Peasant War», to which Hanrieder devoted twenty years of his life, was published in 1907 in the series «Stories from Home».
