On 1 January 2007, Slovenia joined the euro area of countries sharing Europe's single currency since 2002. While the euro notes are identical for all countries, the euro coins have a common side showing the denomination and a distinctive national side featuring a design chosen by the country of issue. The Slovene euro coin designs depict: 2 EURO — the left-facing profile of France Prešeren, Slovenia's greatest poet, with a line "ŽIVE NAJ VSI NARODI" (God's blessing on all nations) from his famous poem "Zdravljica" (A Toast) — Slovenia's national anthem — in the poet's handwriting below.
