Cankar Ivan
(1876—1918)
The greatest of all Slovene short story writers and dramatists, Ivan Cankar produced a wealth of short prose pieces, novels, drama, and verse. Though his plays have created Slovene drama in the proper sense of the word, he is best known as a masterful writer of short prose fiction. As a representative of the Slovene modern literary movement known as «Moderna», Cankar commented strongly on social, national, and moral issues and is considered one of the most prominent European authors at the turn of the century.
