Druţă Ion

Moldavian Writer Ion Druta was born on September 3, 1928 in Horodiste village of Donduseni district, but has lived in Moscow since 1960.
The first works of Druta were published at the start of the 50s. His works included in four volumes, "Frunze de dor", "Balade din campie", "Ultima luna de toamna", "Povara bunatatii Noastre", "Clopotnita", "Horodiste", "Intoarcerea taranii in pamant", "Biserica alba", "Toiagul pastoriei" and others – form part of the golden fund of the contemporary national literature.
Since 1987, Ion Druta has been honorary president of the Writers’ Union of Moldova. He has been appointed to this post by the General Assembly of Writers. He was awarded different orders and medals and holds the title of People’s Writer. In 1967, Ion Druta received the State Prize of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic. On September 30, 1992, he was elected as honorary member of the Romanian Academy and titular member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, while on July 26, 1995, he was included in the list of the top ten writers of the world for 1990.
On August 26, 2008, Ion Druta was honored with a State Award worth 1 million lei for special contribution towards developing the national and universal literature and culture. The year 2008 was declared the Year of Writer Ion Druta.
