Landseer Edwin Henry
(1802—1873)
Animal painter; a child prodigy, first exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1816; established his reputation with a series of animal subjects, often parodying human behaviour; also painted hunting scenes, especially of deer, historical works and portraits; Queen Victoria's favourite painter; earned vast sums from the sale of prints; probably the most popular painter of his age.
