Lev Kassil was a Russian writer. In his novels and short stories, Lev Kassil, wrote about contemporary Russian and Soviet life, about teenagers and their world, about school, sports, cultural life and the war.

Hes books are often "development novel" describing how young people could, in spite of their mistakes, reach a mature view of life. Modesty, unselfishness, endurance and courage were dear to Kassil.
