Blyton Enid Mary  (1897—1968)

Enid Blyton began writing children's stories while working as a governess. Known to many children through her Children's Page in Teacher's World in the 1930s, she went on to produce the 'Famous Five' (from 1942) and 'Secret Seven' novels, school stories, including Malory Towers (from 1946) and, from the 1950s the 'Noddy' books. She published over 400 titles and wrote between six and ten thousand words per day, working on a portable typewriter on her knee.
