Edith Nesbit was born in London. She studied in England, France and Germany. At the age of 17 she published her first poems and later on she began writing short-stories, novels and tales fro children. She died in 1924, leaving behind more than 40 works, considered to be among the best-known books for children.
Her most famous novels include The Story of the Treasure-Seekers (1899), The Wouldbegoods (1901), Five Children and It (1902), The Pheonix and the Carpet (1904), The New Treasurer-Seekers (1904), The Railway Children (1906) and The Enchanted Castle (1907).
