American author. Born December 8, 1894 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a major contributor to the New Yorker magazine, 1927-52. He was known for whimsical writings and cartoons. He is best known for the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and the book, The Thurber Carnival, 1945. He died November 2, 1961 in New York.
