Ispirescu Petre

Petre Ispirescu was a Romanian printer and publicist. Born in Bucharest, his parents wanted him to be a priest and he was entrusted to study with a monk at the Metropolitan Church, after he studied with a priest at the Doamna Bălaşa Church. He quit in 1844 and became a worker at the Carcalchi printing house and later at the Capainig printing house. He was sentenced to one month in prison after publishing the corespondence of Nicolae Vogoride. Ispirescu became the director of the Naţional and Românul printing houses. He founded, together with Goebl Carol, the printing house Lucrătorilor Asociaţi and then he became the owner of the Academiei Române printing house. He is especially known for his collections of Romanian folk stories.
