Base Graeme

Graeme Base is one of the world's leading creators of picture books. His alphabet book Animalia, received international acclaim when it was first published in 1986, and has achieved classic status with worldwide sales of more than two million copies.
The Eleventh Hour followed, and was made joint winner of the 1989 Children's Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year Award. Other perennial favorites by Graeme Base include My Grandma Lived in Gooligulch, The Sign of the Seahorse, The Discovery of Dragons, The Worst Band in the Universe and The Waterhole.
His most recent book is a novel for young readers, Truckdogs, published in October 2003.
The 2003 Stamp Collecting Month stamp issue, Bugs and Butterflies, is the creation of Graeme Base, one of the Australia's most successful illustrators of children's books. Activities focus on the bugs and butterflies featured on the stamps and the complexities of Base's art, as evident in a variety of his works.
Graeme lives in Melbourne with his artist wife, Robyn, and their three children.
